Working Design for Development - for the past two years working in events, 8th-Beat have been very busy for the company as well as our technical team. Philippines was known to have more celebrations like small events like birthdays. reunions, weddings, etc.. But even it is a small occasion, Filipinos will push to have a celebration or a gathering for thanksgiving. From that lifestyle, or can i call it a"tradition", we, "8th-Beat" were always called for service and assistance for LIGHTS AND SOUNDS RENTALS. Seeing the future years having large number of inquiries by call, email, text messages with various events and event needs, we decided to study more on how our presentations with quotations can make these clients avail our services even with lesser conversations. I mean from the quote from us, we want them to have a visual idea on how possible it can be. It is like having a layout of the equipment set that you may rent. perspective drawings or illustrations to make them understand just like what architects do with their presenting designs. We, 8th Beat Pro did our posting to update our sound system and lighting equipment rental services. The ad's main objective and purpose is to make our valued clients understand with what they were inquiring from us. To know more of its technical capabilities, also for their knowledge and awareness with what they were planning to rent. We want them to experience, the easiest and the fastest possible way to understand the given rates and also on emailed quotations. For sound system rentals, prices of our rentals are always negotiable, depending on your event's main objective. Lowering the price below our minimum rates (P 2,500-4,000 minimum rates) will never be an option for the both of us. Honestly, we have been spending our time in computing and studying how we can give all our inquiries a lower price.
As you can see, if planning to own these kinds of equipment set, you will need hundreds of thousands of cash to have them. It’s not like a hobby that you can just afford with a single piece or buy in the malls around. That is why we choose to rent more, than to have our own. Why? It’s because not all are capable financially and technically. Some individuals even the companies can provide these equipment set, but does not have the knowledge in operating it at all. So why buy all these equipment if you can rent them in a lower price. 
Explaining our rental packages (P 2,500-4,000 minimum rates), rates lower than ours can be enough for suppliers with lower standards. It affects our performance in the latter part, and upgrades for better service in the future will never be achieved if we will just turn down the price. LIGHTS AND SOUND SYSTEMS RENTAL - is a family-owned company which started with the two(2) of us, my elder brother in the family namely THOMAS JOSEPH "TJ" OPINALDO(33 yrs.old) and me, LAWRENCE "DON" OPINALDO ,(30yrs.old) who worked as DJs and lighting operators of numerous lights and sounds companies for years. Having the same interest, our mission is to provide the highest standard of professional music and mixes, together with simple lighting and audio services including equipment installations, event rentals and DJ services to bring the perfect entertainment by music, sound and lighting to our world. 
 We offer quite a number of options to meet the demands of our clients who call for a more individualized approach to deliver their specific event production needs. So whether it’s work or family parties, weddings, band performances, city events, fund raisers, church events or programs, birthday parties, and other special occasions, if you’re wired for sound, we can help make it flawless, providing your audience with an exceptional lighting and audio experience.
  8th Beat Lights and Sound Systems Rental members and co-founders provides and performs well with extra ordinary passion and interest in all fields of event services. Starting with our sound technicians, Disc Jockeys, lighting operators, stage hands and crew team were trained with dedication at the same time working with enough skills in every field of event services assigned to them. Each one of them had their practice in working together, and definitely knows what first-rate performance or setup is all about and also chooses the right way to meet our client's perspective. In choosing what is the best, from room acoustics, stage rigs with live sound, video mixing and lighting placements.Our commitment to client service results in long-term partnerships, the invaluable distinction that sets us apart.

- A SHORT STORY BEHIND OUR LIGHTS AND SOUND SYSTEM RENTAL -
Our company provides services in relation with audio and lighting. Installations, DJ equipment rentals, music recording and DJ services were one of the most frequent jobs we offer. We were too young to become DJ's that time. Offering DJ services with other big sound system companies like Exile Touring Group, Wave Station Inc, Noise Reduction Lights and Sounds, Halfway Mobile,.etc became our toughest days of training exercises. We valued their skills, methods, and the strategies in how they perform technical event engineering and lights and sounds setup with different kinds of events.
                              
Started as a hobby, my brother Lawrence Opinaldo and I TJ Opinaldo decided to form this company in December 1999,(formerly known as 3rd Dimension Mobile) with some friends namely Peter Pacheco, Juancho Padilla,DjOhm Caldona,Jose Rogie Sevilla,Eduard Benjamin,Edgar Dela Peña,DjBigboy Renee Candido,Djcrizz Lemuel Albolote,Jerohme OPinaldo,Jommel Palapala,Leonard Aeron Lazaro (and many more...You know who you are) who contributed a lot to make this dream standing where it is right now.
                                            
  It wasn't that easy and simple at start because I and my brother don’t have that resources and capability to buy and own audio and lighting equipment, so everything was being borrowed. Different sorts of equipment with different schedules, from different owners .Me and Lawrence Opinaldo went through a lot of challenges, event troubles, equipment failures, trials and frustrations but we learned from the loads of mistakes we did.We were students of Don Boaco Technical College and have nurtured us to be servant-leaders spiritually, mentally and physically. We were trained to work with technicality by all means in all aspects. These practices enhanced our event management skills and gave us the chance to experience some of their events inside the campus.
 Now, we've been in this business for barely 12 years, and I can say that various experience and inquisitive experimentation have ignited a passion within us. We don't say that we are the best in this line of business, but we make it sure that you can be seen and heard in the best possible way, and thus we value our clients and consider them as family, and make their celebrations worthwhile and memorable.

Previous name was Third Dimension Mobile,. and this name was carried by one of our staffs who already have his own sound system service equipment, all with the help of 8th Beat  team's effort, no funds and no cash advances. ...8th Beat Light and Sound Touring Group is a company that provides services in relation with audio and lighting. Installations, Rentals and DJ services were the most frequent jobs we offer.....
Started as a hobby, my brother and I decided to form this company in December 1999, with some friends namely Peter Pacheco, Juancho Padilla, DJ Ohm Caldona, JRogie Sevilla, Jerome Opinaldo, Brian Martinez, Leo Martinez, Jommel Palapala, Chris "DJ IT" Albolote, Eduard "edu" Benjamin, (and many more..you know who you are..)who contributed a lot to make this dream standing where it is right now.

 
 It wasn't that easy and simple at start because me and my brother doesn't have that resources and capability to buy and own audio and lighting equipment, so everything was being borrowed. Different sorts of equipment with different owners..
I(T.J. OPINALDO) and my brother(LAWRENCE OPINALDO)went through a lot of challenges, trials and frustrations but we learned from the loads of mistakes we did.
Event was held at Emar Suites Roof Deck in Shaw Blvd in Mandaluyong City with GFI production and Metro-tech Staffs
Now, we've been in this business for barely 12 years, and I can say that various experience and inquisitive experimentations ignited a passion within us. We don't say that we are the best in this line of business, but we make it sure that you can be seen and heard in the best possible way, and thus we value our clients and consider them as family, and make their celebrations worthwhile and memorable. Understanding the language of the "Show".

Communication is key in any successful business, and pro audio is no exception. We've compiled a quick glossary of common terms you'll likely to hear in a performance venue
Below are simple but important terms that you should know for working in this field. Where appropriate, common abbreviations are shown. Many times you will find these abbreviations stenciled onto the road cases.
Also, it is common for only the abbreviations to be used on stageplots. With that in mind, it is important to also familiarize yourself with the common abbreviations.

Positional Terms :
Stage Left (SL): Left side of the stage from the performer’s perspective facing the audience.
Stage Right (SR): Right side of the stage from the performer’s perspective facing the audience.
Downstage (DS): This would be the part of the stage closest to the audience. You would consider it the front of the stage.
Upstage (US): This would be the part of the stage farthest from the audience. You would consider it the rear of the stage.
Center Stage (CS or C): This one is self explanatory.
Off-stage: This refers to the area just off the main performing area of the stage.

The above terms can be combined for a more descriptive location on the stage. For example: Downstage Left (DSL): Would be downstage (front area of stage nearest the audience) and stage left.


Other common stage position terms and abbreviations are :

Note: The term ‘backstage’ does not apply to a position on the stage but rather refers to the area behind the stage (or sometimes beside the stage) that is used for dressing rooms, storage, production equipments, etc.. This area is not viewable by the audience.

Front of House (FOH): When this term is used referring to a position then it means the area where the house mixing console is (or will be) located for the show. This is also sometimes referred to as Mix World. When not used as a positional term it can be used such as- FOH Speakers, FOH console, FOH amps, etc . In those usages it is denoting items that are used for the ‘house’ PA (PA for audience sound and not performer’s monitor system).
Monitor World (MON): This is the area, almost always offstage, where the monitor mixer is located. Also called ‘Monitor Beach’, ‘Stage Mix Position’.
Sound Wings: Separate risers on each side of the stage (or sometimes can be part of the main stage) where the speakers for the house are stacked. Sometimes the name is shortened to ‘Wings’.
Spot Bay: Area reserved for spotlight and operator. Can be a riser, scaffolding, or purpose built area. Also called ‘Spot(light) tower’.

Work Terms :
Stage Plot: A stage plot is a ‘map’ of sorts showing you a rough layout of the stage.
Show-call: Anyone scheduled for ‘show-call’ will be doing work that must be done during the show.
(Note: Proper decorum generally dictates that anyone working show-call wear ‘blacks’. That refers to black pants and a black shirt.)
Hit: Sometimes someone will ask something such as “When does the show hit?”. ‘Hit’ would be the scheduled start time of the performance.
Strike: An item to be ‘struck’ is meant to be removed from the stage. You could be told “Strike the guitarist’s vocal mic”. In that case you are being told to remove the mic from the stage (or to skip it on the stage plot if before setup).
Set Change: This is the process of clearing the stage of the opening act’s gear and preparing the stage for the headlining act.
Loader(s): These are people who are assigned in the truck/trailer to be unloaded. They remove items from the truck and then others take it from there to the stage during load in.
Pusher(s): These people take the equipment from the ‘loaders’ and ‘push’ it to the stage area.
Stagehand(s): These workers await the equipment at the stage area and position it as the ‘pushers’ bring it to them. Also called ‘Hands’
(Note: 1. Loaders and Pushers may assume other duties once their initial roles are complete. 2. On load out the loaders will still be assigned to the truck/trailer but many times all other hands will tear down and then push their own ready work to the truck rather than having designated pushers for load out. This can vary so check with the Crew Chief.)
Crew Chief/Stage Manager: This person(s) will direct the load in, setup, set change, and load out to see that it all occurs in an orderly fashion.
LD: Lighting Director. Main lighting operator.
Spot Op/Spot Operator: Person whose assigned duty will be operating the followspot during the show.
Tech: Generally refers to anyone with a ‘technical’ knowledge of the system or a part of the system.
Band Engineer (BE): The engineer that actually mixes the group.
System Engineer (SE): The engineer whose job it is to see that the system is configured and operating properly.
Focus: Once the light show is hung and raised the LD may want to ‘aim’ the fixtures to cover certain parts of the stage. This is called the ‘focus’.
Dressing Cables: Process of making cable runs neat and safer by taping them to the stage with Gaffer’s tape.
Spike the Stage: A term that means to mark the position of items that might or will be moved so that they can return to their original position during ‘set change’.

Items :
Backline: This term refers to, and is interchangeable with, band gear. This includes guitar amps, drums, etc.. This refers to the items themselves and NOT an area of the stage.
Wedge (MON): Common term indicating a stage monitor.
Drumfill: Drummer’s monitor. Can be a simple ‘wedge’ or can be a larger setup depending on the act’s requirements.
Sidefills: Stage monitors placed on the side of the stage to supplement the individual monitors of the musicians.
Stacks: Term used to denote house speakers for the audience (FOH Stacks).
Flown Speakers: Speakers that are suspended from overhead truss (or other means) rather than simply stacked near the stage.
Distro (PD): AC distribution center. Used for larger shows where the system needs more power than a few typical circuits can provide. Also called ‘Power Distro’.
Gaffer’s Tape (Gaff): Professional tape used to ‘dress cables’. While similar in appearance to duct tape, gaffer’s tape leaves less residue behind, has a non reflective appearance, is easier to tear, and is by far the professional’s choice.
Pin 1 Lift: This is an adapter or balanced microphone cable where the shield is intentionally not connected on one end of the cable or adaptor. This is a much safer way to attempt to lessen or remove the noise noise caused by a ground loop. Lifting the AC ground is dangerous and NOT recommended.
